A Frame Off Restoration

August 2018

Painting the Door

Picture of Paint Roller for the Driver Side Door
We used a paint short nap roller to paint the door. We will spray the hardware and touch up the screw heads and bolts with a brush.

Cleaning up the hardware and prepping it for paint. With the exception of the wood screws and bolts most of the hardware is in pretty good condition.

Starting with the Doors

The military version has wooden (marine grade plywood) doors. Surprisingly they are in pretty good condition. We used PC Petrifier to strengthen the wood and WoodEpox to repair the damage and fill in the screw holes. The plan is to do one door at a time starting with the passenger's side.

Cab Closure Restoration

Cab Closure
It’s time to finish the full restoration. When we bought the Jeep it had an aluminum Cab Closure, sometimes referred to as an "Arctic Top." We were not sure it was the military period correct top. It turns out it is, and therefore deserves to be on the Jeep. Now we have another great project!. It will be especially nice when it’s done. We haven’t been able to drive it in the Veteran’s Day parade because in Seattle it will rain on our parade! With the Cab Closure, no problem!

Phase II Restore

With the easy part behind us it' was time to start restoring or replacing parts. This took the longest time because each piece had to be cleaned, inspected, refurbished or replaced. It was fun to learn about each component and gratifying to see each part repaired and ready to install.
